Traditional dog training has long depended on the use of force; the application of equipment such as “training collars” (choke chains) and prong collars, and violent, sometimes dangerous corrections like “jerk,” “pop,” “hanging,” “scruff shake,” and “alpha roll.”

In recent years, many trainers have begun to realize the value of modern, humane training methods based on the scientific principles of positive reinforcement and reward; showing dogs what we want rather than forcing them into submission.  Originally used with dolphins, these methods are spectacularly successful with dogs, horses and our other companion animals.  The result is happier dogs and happier owners, and a partnership between owner and dog based on mutual respect and communication.

Peaceable Paws is pleased to promote the modern, positive training philosophy because it encourages humane treatment of animals and raises awareness of respect and compassion for all life.

We welcome your interest in Peaceable Paws Dog Training Programs.  Please explore our website and feel free to contact us if you have questions or comments.  Whether you train with us or elsewhere, please remember that your dog’s welfare is in your hands.  If any trainer does (or asks you to do) anything that you are uncomfortable with, you have the right and the duty to intervene.  Your dog depends on you for protection from harm and abuse.
